Apart from sunny summer days. But it’s nice to get a beautiful clear sky on a crisp winter day. That’s today! Skies are clear it’s chilly sounds like a good day for a boat trip. That said forecast shows a small craft advisory and 4ft waves in the sound so we’ll see. Decided to head to Langley on Whidbey Island for a bite to eat for lunch and a cruise. Thought I’d try writing as I go today. It’s 10am and just leaving lake union.
Didn’t make it far down the Fremont ship canal before having to wait 15 mins while a huge barge was maneuvered around by three tug boats.
Winds are actually blowing really high so easy but a pain to keep us in the middle of the channel while we waited. Some big gusts which can make entry to the locks a challenge but the wind dropped as we entered Ballard locks and it was a breeze (pun intended)
turns out the wind was howling down the sound. Made for a fun cruise up to whidbey hitting 5-6 foot waves.
Made it to Langley in a little over 2 hours. Was a lot calmer as we rounded Whidbey and got shelter from the wind. Marina staff were super friendly and put us inside the outer breakwater. No free short stay but only $15 for a few hours. Supposed to be two but they said take as long as you want.
The town of Langley is small and cute, so cute there were rabbits everywhere and they seemed to be tame not wild. Super weird we saw at least 3.
wandered the gift shops bought me some gloves as it was nippy as hell and grabbed lunch at the Bistro. Good food.
Eventually headed back and cruised back to Seattle in the sunset.
Top day!
